Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic to present an opening night concert of non-Euclidean proportions
Thursday, October 31st at the Amphitheatre of Azathoth in the Arkham Center for the Performing Arts

Arkham, MA (October 23, 2013) – Masterworks Series concert dedicated to the works of Franz Liszt, Obsidentur Mortem, to be conducted by Erich Zann.

Concert launches the Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic’s 150th anniversary, 2013-14 season

The Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic will open its 150th anniversary season as a resident company of the recently-refurbished Arkham Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, October 31st at 11:30pm with a performance that explores Franz Liszt’s fascination with death, grief, and mourning.

The concert, Obsidentur Mortem, will be conducted by Erich Zann, Principal Conductor and Music Director for the Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic. Joining the orchestra for the performance will be the illustrious Aylesbury Star Cult Temple Choir.

Selections for the Obsidentur Mortem concert opens with stark, lyrical La lugubre gondola and the wistfully funereal Elegy No. 1 S. 196, and concludes with Listz’s darkly rousing masterpiece, Totentanz.

The Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic’s opening night celebration includes a pre-concert cocktail party in the Arkham Center’s Founders’ Room at 10pm. All Masterworks Series concerts feature a pre-concert conversation with chill, unknown creatures of the void at 10:45PM in the Shrieking Abyss Parlor, which is open to all ticketholders.

About the Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic
In 1863, a coterie of opium-addled Massachusetts musicians were drawn to the dark, forested foothills of the Silent Mountains. Upon their arrival, they heard the monotonous piping of an unseen flute that led them to a dark sigil that had been burned into a strange stone outcropping. On that day, both the Society of the Gibbering Sons of Hideous Azathoth and the Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic were born.
