Mata Hari Perfume Oil

$5.75$23.00

A renowned exotic dancer and courtesan, possessed of aristocratic elegance, matchless charm, an iron will and a streak of fearlessness. The actual events of her life have met with much speculation, and to this day it is unclear whether or not she was truly a German spy. Despite shaky evidence of her guilt, she was tried for espionage by a closed court-martial and was executed by a French firing squad in 1917.

Her scent is striking and bold with a delicate yet dark undertone: five roses with soft jasmine, warmed by vanilla, fig, tonka bean and mahogany, spiced with a drop of coffee bean

Do you want to smell like a princess covered in jasmine and silk? This one is for you! The jasmine is VERY strong, almost overwhelmingly but it mellows out fairly quickly. Vanilla, fig, tonka, mahogany, and coffee are there but you really have to sit with the scent to find them.

I love this scent it is definitely exotic I get the coffee, florals, and then spices. I could definitely see it as smelling off because of the complexity of all the scents but when its on it smells heady and sexy like a hot summer night in an exotic local.

Do imps go bad? I received this as an imp straight from the Lab, and you’re all going to think I’m crazy, but for some reason it overwhelmed me with a very strong fecal smell upon application. I didn’t get any rose or jasmine at all, and those are my go-to scent notes. Perhaps something about the mahogany and coffee, neither of which I ever wear, are creating something unpleasant with my skin chemistry. I couldn’t even wait until the dry-down before washing it off, because I nearly threw up. I’ve tried dozens of BPAL scents at this point and this is the only truly bad reaction I have had to a scent, so if you are new and reading this, please don’t let it deter you. Scents are different on everyone; this one and I just did NOT get along.

This is a really lovely scent… but the only thing I’m smelling is the rose and jasmine. I actually love that combo, which is why I have a full-size bottle of Nyx. On my skin, these two smell absolutely identical. Identically fantastic, but still.

Very pleasant, pretty rose and jasmine, but unfortunately not much else. However, my skin amps both rose and jasmine scents, so it’s likely the rest of the influences are just getting drowned out on me personally and will show up for others; even though it’s a very simple floral for me it’s a really lovely one and I definitely don’t regret trying out this scent!

To me, this smells like a pure floral. The jasmine is very strong at first but becomes more balanced with the rose after some time. The richer notes that I had hoped would be a little more assertive (coffee, mahogany, fig) are not really noticeable, at least on me. I would certainly recommend to anyone who likes rose/jasmine, but if you’re hoping for a more nuanced floral this isn’t really it.

A fragrance rare. Sweet, rich, and utterly original. It is a relative of Follow Me Boy, so if you love FMB, be sure to test MH. Roses at the heart, the warm, rich kind that I love. Jasmine melded with vanilla and tonka. Sweet fig and mahogany are providing a subtle grounding. The coffee occasionally appears around the edges, but only faintly.

On my bottle list, for sure.

I seem to be the opposite of others in this review. I got coffee immediately upon application, and then once dry, it softened down to the rose and jasmine, almost powdery with that hint of coffee still present. I like it, but I think I need to give it a few more wears and let it grow on me some more before I make a hard decision. I was hoping for more jasmine and less coffee on me.

The jasmine is very dominant while this is still wet, and when it dries, there’s still a great deal of jasmine. I like it, but I’d hoped for more coffee/fig to warm up the rose and jasmine.

    Floral, warm, soft.

Although this one sounded perfect for me in theory, when I put it on, all I seem to pull out is the mahogany, tonka bean and coffee. That leads to kind of a woodsy baby powder smell that isn’t my favourite, but on someone else would probably smell beautiful!

When this one is wet there is a very powerful floral smell to it. As it dries some of the spice and sweetness (from the vanilla and fig) come out. However, jasmine and roses are still the prevailing scent throughout. It is nice and light, not too overpowering or cloying a perfume.
