Black Annis Perfume Oil

Vast talons, foul with human flesh, there grew
In place of hands, and features livid blue
Glar’d in her visage; while the obscene waist
Warm skins of human victims close embraced.

The blue faced hag of the British Hills. She lives in the Dane Hills, Leicestershire, in a cave called Black Annis’ Bower Close, which she dug out of rock with her own iron-strong claws. Dozens of huge cats prowl the Bower with her, and it is guarded by a great pollarded oak in which she hides so that she may catch lambs and small children to eat. She carries her victims back to her cave, where she flays them alive before devouring them. She drapes their skins on her guardian oak to dry. Her skirt is fashioned from the skins of her prey, and her bed is a high-piled bed of their bones.

Black Annis’ perfume is a mixture of damp cave lichen and oak leaf with a hint of vetiver, civet and anise.

Got this as a freebie, to me it smells like the very strong, Australian, black licorice candy they sell in pharmacies over here. While I’ve never been a fan of the taste I have to admit the scent of it is lovely. I always get compliments whenever I wear it and licorice is one of my partners favorite candies, so if this tempts them to take a nibble every now and again, who am I to complain?

I love this scent! I received Black Annis as a frimp in my very first Bpal order ever. Smelled it and said, “oh licorice….well… i don’t know that I’d ever wear licorice perfume.” So I set it aside and put off trying it. Then I tried it…. Oh my! 2nd favorite/runner up to Nosferatu, which is my absolute favorite, I love this for different reasons. It is like a very old, antique general store licorice. On my skin it lasts through the night and into the next day, and while you smell the licorice laced with the mysterious, earthy smells, it mellows out and just sinks right into my natural skin smell. It “fits” me.

Wow! Vetiver and oak leaf are very dominant in the beginning of this, but it slowly mellows into a sweeter anise. I really like this, it’s very interesting.

I don’t recognize civet. But this a very earthy creature. I keep returning to sniff my wrist. It almost has a buttery note on my skin. Never had that happen! The oak is a really nice touch. I could really see myself getting a bottle of this, even if the legend does scare me!

This is one of my favorite scents. Its musky, woodsy, with a hint of old fashioned candy. My husband says it smells like the old gothic hotel you find off the beaten path..you know…the one you dont want to go into because you know you might not come back out again.
