Lambs-Wool Perfume Oil $26.00

Lambs-Wool Perfume Oil

According to William Shepard Walsh, the Gentleman’s Magazine for May of 1784 stated, “this is a constant ingredient at merrymaking on Holy Eve.” He also quotes Vallancey’s etymological speculation: “The first day of November was dedicated to the angel presiding over fruits, seeds, etc., and was therefore named La Mas Ubhal, — that is, the day of the apple fruit, — and being pronounced Lamasool, the English have corrupted the name to Lambs-wool.”

A popular holy day beverage in 18th century Ireland: roasted apples mashed into warmed milk and ale, with nutmeg, sugar, ginger, and clove.

This scent is autumn festival perfection. It’s gentle, but not faint, and definitely evokes an outdoor October celebration at night in a sort of times-gone-by sort of way. The mashed apple is almost mellow pear-like, the clove and nutmeg are subtle but present (perfection), and there’s almost a spooky wholesomeness about it. Like an old world folksy town with secrets. I need to order another bottle before they run out, definitely, and keep it around for autumns to come.

In the bottle, this smells like cherry flavored cough syrup. I don’t think anyone likes that smell, but I was willing to give it a try. Once applied to the skin, though, the aroma mellows into the description listed: apples, a small dash of milk, and a mix of spices. It’s quite good and I am very relieved it does not stay smelling like cherry cough syrup after all.

I’ve had this for about a week now and it so wonderful! Wet it’s very apple-y, almost caramel apple. Delicious and warm. I would love to drink something that smells like this! On me it dries into the spices–clove and ginger, and I smell cinnamon (even tho not listed in the ingredients.) In terms of staying power, I would put it in the moderate range. I have needed to reapply it after 4-6 hours if I want to keep enjoying it. Really lovely autumn fragrance!
