Somnium

O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas’d eyes, embower’d from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine:
O soothest Sleep! if it so please thee, close,
In midst of this thine hymn, my willing eyes,
Or wait the amen, ere thy poppy throws
Around my bed its lulling charities.
Then save me, or the passéd day will shine
Upon my pillow, breeding many woes;
Save me from curious conscience, that still lords
Its strength for darkness, burrowing like a mole;
Turn the key deftly in the oilèd wards,
And seal the hushèd casket of my soul.

    Wet, this to me smells strikingly like the original Chloe – but once dried down, the sweetness begins to shine through and gives the scent a much younger, lighter, more wearable feel.
    This isn’t sleepy in an intoxicating sense – think less crashing at 4am on a Saturday morning, more going to bed at precisely 9pm on a Wednesday.

    Definitely very floral. I’m thinking lavender, jasmine, and verbena, perhaps? Jasmine is the strongest for me, but I tend to amplify jasmine in general, so that’s not much of a surprise. In the bottle it’s really sharp and not terribly pleasant. On my skin it tones down and is better, but still not my preferred scent. I haven’t tried it out for sleeping yet, but I can see how it’s the right notes to help with that.

    Suuuper floral! Bright from the lavender and sweet from everything else. People who like florals might like this one. It was awful on me.

    Rich, drowsy flowers. Lavender is on top, but there are sweeter, less aggressive flowers in this blend as well. I love it, and it reminds me of the feeling of being drowsy on a warm summer afternoon. I used up 2 imps, and then bought a bottle.
