The Fox Sisters 2024 Perfume Oil
Add to cartFor the sake of continuity the subsequent history of the Fox sisters will now be given after the events at Hydesville. It is a remarkable, and to Spiritualists a painful, story, but it bears its own lesson and should be faithfully recorded. When men have an honest and whole-hearted aspiration for truth there is no development which can ever leave them abashed or find no place in their scheme.
For some years the two younger sisters, Kate and Margaret, gave séances at New York and other places, successfully meeting every test which was applied to them. Horace Greeley, afterwards a candidate for the United States presidency, was, as already shown, deeply interested in them and convinced of their entire honesty. He is said to have furnished the funds by which the younger girl completed her very imperfect education.
During these years of public mediumship, when the girls were all the rage among those who had no conception of the religious significance of this new revelation, and who concerned themselves with it purely in the hope of worldly advantage, the sisters exposed themselves to the enervating influences of promiscuous séances in a way which no earnest Spiritualist could justify. The dangers of such practices were not then so clearly realized as now, nor had it occurred to people that it is unlikely that high spirits would descend to earth in order to advise as to the state of railway stocks or the issue of love affairs. The ignorance was universal, and there was no wise mentor at the elbow of these poor pioneers to point the higher and the safer path. Worst of all, their jaded energies were renewed by the offer of wine at a time when one at least of them was hardly more than a child. It is said that there was some family predisposition towards alcoholism, but even without such a taint their whole procedure and mode of life were rash to the last degree. Against their moral character there has never been a breath of suspicion, but they had taken a road which leads to degeneration of mind and character, though it was many years before the more serious effects were manifest. Some idea of the pressure upon the Fox girls at this time may be gathered from Mrs. Hardinge Britten’s* description from her own observation. She talks of “pausing on the first floor to hear poor patient Kate Fox, in the midst of a captious, grumbling crowd of investigators, repeating hour after hour the letters of the alphabet, while the no less poor, patient spirits rapped out names, ages and dates to suit all comers.” Can one wonder that the girls, with vitality sapped, the beautiful, watchful influence of the mother removed, and harassed by enemies, succumbed to a gradually increasing temptation in the direction of stimulants?

Deception and despair: rose geranium and tea roses with mahogany wood, bourbon vanilla, and apple peel.

Rain, moss, and dirt in a bottle. I do love this one a lot, though sometimes certain elements of it bounce out different days that I wear it– making it a slightly unpredictable scent. Sometimes it feels a bit pungent in a peculiar way, maybe the moss or yew? But usually whenever I notice that weird smell that occasionally comes with it, it goes away after awhile or at the very least settles in with the rest of the scent. Also unlike with Zombi, I don’t really get any florals with this one, at least not on me. Either way, it’s a very nice scent, like being outside in an old, overgrown graveyard while it’s raining.

i absolutely ADORE this. It perfectly captures the smell of moist soil after rain, the spanish moss note is amazing. Once it’s dry, the rose finally starts to pull through. I’m typically not a fan of rose, but this is so delicate, almost like dried roses with the lingering aquatic scent. SO GORGEOUS, i plan on buying a full sized bottle soon.
good.amy1 –
it smells like a rainy day and wet dirt in the most refreshing citrus way and a hint of powdery rose
santi_life13 –
This is a beautifully blended scent! Fresh earth, rich and dark, through and through. There’s something spicy, green and almost citrusy lingering at the top even after the perfume dries down–the geranium perhaps? This leans towards the masculine side of unisex, but I do prefer it to Zombi.

When I opened the bottle, I thought I would hate this smell– it just punched me in the face with rose and nothing else. However, having given it a try I am very pleasantly surprised! The rose note is still very much present, but it quickly calms down into a sort of milder, almost soapy scent with an earthy, spicy note.

I was afraid the rose would be too overpowering, but on me the graveyard dirt is the star. And it truly smells like freshly upturned earth, wet from rain & tears. The rose & Spanish moss blend beautifully in the background and once dry, give off a softly beguiling scent that is truly enchanting. I’ve never had so many people ask about my fragrance! A full size bottle is in my future for sure.

This is one of my favorites. I think this is my favorite graveyard dirt scent from BPAL. I have had people tell me it smells like a rose perfume, but I definitely smell the graveyard dirt note. It is very light on me, but not so much that I have to reapply it often. It hangs close to my skin. I am in love with this. It’s romantic, dark, vampiric, stimulates my imagination, and just screams my name.

I received a sample imp of this and I could not be happier. This is exactly the kind of scent that I’ve been searching for. For some reason, the only way I can describe it is that it’s a horrific, gothic romance. Like a funeral in the rain– gorgeous. The notes of the florals and moist soil are very strong, but rather than competing with one another, they’ve run off and gotten married. They truly bring out the best that both have to offer. I will be back to purchase the full size! It’s absolutely beautiful!

I got an imp of this with the Earth collection and I love it! It has a definite “wet dirt” smell in the bottle that hits you first, then a dead rose smell after. On the skin the rose smell becomes soapy but isn’t unpleasant. A very clean scent that is subtle once it dries.
TarynPage –
I love, love this scent in the imp. Smells just like earth with dried flowers sprinkled over the top. Reminds me a bit of old soapy roses. I smell the moss and darker notes more in the vial. On my skin, however, it starts smelling a little more like the perfumes my grandmothers used to wear.
Jar: Soil and dried flowers. Soapy and a little bit like soil drying in the sun.
On *my* skin: Becomes much more floral on my skin. Less dark and more rosy. Old-fashioned and brittle.

This is a very interesting scent, it smells very strongly of funeral flowers and freshly tread upon mud. It is a very dark and almost sad scent which I really like.

This is one of the most beautiful scents and one I most remember about BPAL. It smells like wet soil, and with the floral notes, reminds me of gardening all day. It has a tone of dark romance to it as well that’s hard to describe. Like I said, one of my favorites.

I have the imp of this one and I am surprised by the scent of this. In the bottle, it made me feel a bit cautious because I caught the floral smell first and I was worried that it would over power everything. When it was first on my skin, it definitely had more of the earthy quality that I was looking for and the florals were strong but not overwhelming. I’m pleasantly surprised to find that the moss smell does pop out after and blend everything together in a way that smells exactly like the wet cemeteries that I used to work in.
luxdancer –
Wet: Earthy, it definitely has that dirt smell, though with the weird buzzing note that I associate with synthetic scents. After a second sniff, I can catch the florals. On my skin, the florals come out first, with the earthy smell as an undernote.
Dry: Mostly florals, with the faintest hint of the earthy smell. Not something I would wear regularly, though the earthy note may be a good character scent.

As BPAL “dirt” scents go, this is in the same family as Penny Dreadful and Zombi – dark, moist earth combined with soft, mournful flowers. I’m not sure what rose geranium smells like, but I definitely smell florals. There’s also something wet and salty, like the sea. Maybe the moss causes this slightly aquatic note. I like it, but the sweetly perfumed Penny Dreadful remains my favorite dirt blend.
