Today, the Trump administration announced that they will be reinstating the US military ban on transgender people. This policy not only affects the livelihoods of thousands upon thousands of transgender military personnel, but also paves the way for further acts of bigotry and hate in our government and communities.
We are hosting an emergency fundraiser for our friends at the National Center for Transgender Equality and for the American Civil Liberties Union. The two scents that are going live are being pulled from a future coffee-themed update that was slated for 2018. I specifically chose these scents because they are cheery and uplifting – without the usual highly-specific socio-political context that we attached to many of our fundraiser scents – in the hopes that it will sell well and sell quickly so that we can be as effective as possible in helping out. Help us take an immediate stand to fight this unconstitutional, immoral, and unnecessarily cruel ban.
Even if you choose not to make a purchase, please consider donating to or volunteering with the NCTE and / or ACLU. Stand with the transgender community, and be a compassionate and hard-working ally to all marginalized groups whose civil rights, livelihood, happiness, health and well-being are being trampled by this administration.
Coffee and rum laced with allspice, nutmeg, clove, star anise, cardamom, and cinnamon gently whipped into buttercream.

This is mostly a spice scent on me. Wet, it’s sweet coffee and spices and a little rum, but it is never over-the-top boozy; instead as it dries the rum becomes a grounding note and even the coffee takes a backseat to the spice blend. I get a lot of cardamom, which I love. This is a very enjoyable spicy warm scent for the colder months, and it benefits a great cause.

I haven’t worn perfume for 30 years, mostly because scents I like initially turn into “WASH IT OFF WASH IT OFF!” after a short period of time. Not this one. I love the way it smells All Day Long. I haven’t bought anything that has pleased me this much for a while. I mostly wear it at home (because people with allergies), so I can spend a lot of time sticking my nose down my shirt for a big inhale and a smile.
I’m sorry this isn’t an informative review for what this perfume actually smells like; I just love it, is all.

I posted a longer review on the forums, but this is a warm and cozy sort of scent, in my opinion. I’m not usually big on foody scents, but the spiced rum feels like it balances out the coffee. I feel like the buttercream somewhat faded a bit along the way, but it’s enjoyable. This is a perfume I’d recommend for sure and the proceeds go to a good cause.

The last time I bought from BPAL, there was no review section – that’s what the forum was for! 🙂 But this scent is the perfect one for my first “official” review, as hopefully it will encourage folks to purchase a scent that benefits a great cause.
I was a little nervous that this might be a bit too creamy-sweet (creamy scents don’t work well with me, and while I do love a sweet scent, sometimes they can be a bit cloying). I was delighted to find that my concerns were unfounded!
A quick sniff in the bottle definitely gives me coffee and spiced rum – that deep molasses with a hint of spice. Honestly, if someone gave me a beverage that smelled like this, I would happily drink it!
Fresh on the skin, it’s quite similar. As it dries, the “spice” comes center stage. I don’t get a creamy scent (hooray for me!), and the coffee scent is one of the first to fade. I’ll agree with Gloame that cinnamon is the most prominent note once dry. I do get a bit of clove and nutmeg as well, and the molasses sweetness lingers underneath for quite some time – though it’s more subdued. I think it’s very well-balanced.
Overall, it’s delightful. It’s spicy and warm and just a tad sweet.

I very much get the rum and coffee right away, spiced rum and strong coffee, with the bitter note of the coffee balancing out the sweeter notes of the rum and spices. After a bit, the buttercream kicks in, blending well with the spices and the coffee. It is a fairly strong scent and still lingers almost 11 hours later, finally fading to mild spices. Great scent, great cause.

I picked this up yesterday at the Long Beach Midsummer Scream fest. The first sniff is very reminiscent of The Jeweled Spider from the American Gods collection. It has that ‘fruited coffee’ vibe. I recently switched from drinking regular coffee to fig coffee to give my adrenals a rest and this reminds me of that coffee: deep, dark, purple, but not exactly “coffee”. Satisfying in a different way. There’s a heaping spoon of cinnamon in here. I don’t go red on my skin like I do with some cinnamon blends—which is great!—but the cinnamon definitely sits near the top of the scent for a long while. I don’t get any distinct rum.
On drydown, it’s a lighter version of the same thing. No morphing.
To me, this is a cleaner version of The Jeweled Spider. No cigarillo, but otherwise a similar stack of notes.
Where I’d wear this: Autumn hay ride with friends and thermoses of spiked coffee.
