‘Tis said that when
The hands of men
Tamed this primeval wood,
And hoary trees with groans of woe,
Like warriors by an unknown foe,
Were in their strength subdued,
The virgin Earth Gave instant birth
To springs that ne’er did flow
That in the sun Did rivulets run,
And all around rare flowers did blow
The wild rose pale Perfumed the gale
And the queenly lily adown the dale
(Whom the sun and the dew
And the winds did woo),
With the gourd and the grape luxuriant grew.

So when in tears
The love of years
Is wasted like the snow,
And the fine fibrils of its life
By the rude wrong of instant strife
Are broken at a blow
Within the heart
Do springs upstart
Of which it doth now know,
And strange, sweet dreams,
Like silent streams
That from new fountains overflow,
With the earlier tide
Of rivers glide
Deep in the heart whose hope has died —
Quenching the fires its ashes hide, —
Its ashes, whence will spring and grow
Sweet flowers, ere long,
The rare and radiant flowers of song!

A sunlit ancient forest, dotted with wild roses, grape vine, and queenly lilies, clothed in swirls of opium smoke.

Wet: green, woody, floral. Deep. A touch soapy.
Just Dry: Deeper, a bit less green, and now the smoke is there. Just a caress of it, not overpowering.
Later: smoky and woody. The green and floral have both fled.

I purchased an imp recently, so I assume it’s fresh in the vial. At the moment, it throws extremely herbal on me, smelling of licorice with a faint underlying rose/woody scent. If you’ve ever had a tummy-soothing licorice herbal tea, you’ll know the aroma I’m talking about. It reads as more masculine (if a scent can be said to have a gender, anyway.)

It’s currently way too licoricey for my tastes, but I’m going to let the imp sit for a a couple of months and revisit it. All the other reviews describe a much more layered fragrance so I think maybe it’s a blend that needs to age a bit before wear.

Alas! My body chemistry seems to love turning things soapy. I despaired, but with a bit longer to settle I wound up smelling like a Lush store! Not exactly what I was expecting, but it’s far from unpleasant on me! Impressive staying power too! The scent lingered the next morning.

My partner got this for me for Christmas, and it’s one of my favorite scents! It reminds me a lot of frangipani, sweet but woody. Lasts all day. I have very musky pheromones’ and this pairs very well with my body chemistry.

This makes me smell like a Lush bath bomb – not what I wanted but so nice!

An almost Eldritch forest scent, pulled straight from Oberon’s court. Very masculine and intoxicating. Considering buying a full bottle, it’s one of my favorites so far.

This smells very strongly of opium and what I’m guessing is the grape vine. It makes for a smoky, earthy scent. The roses and lilies aren’t coming through on me much at all, so I feel like it’s not as balanced a scent as I would have preferred. It softens a little the longer I wear it but it’s still quite strong. A good scent but not quite what I was looking for.

The grape is the strongest note in the bottle, and I thought it might come out the same way, overly grape candy with just hints of the other notes. Not so on the skin; you only get whiffs of grape through the florals as you move. I quite like it.

Extremely masculine smell to me, reminds me of the shaving cream my grandfather used. Very woody and green.

In the imp: I can smell the grape vine, lilies, and roses along with the forest note.

Wet: The grape vine is quite prominent, and the lily and rose notes are rather strong as well. After the scent has sat on my skin for a few minutes, the opium smoke note appears. This is not a dark evergreen forest, but the sunlit one mentioned in the description. Although I do detect some pine, I feel like this forest is comprised of a fair amount of deciduous trees as well.

Dry: The forest note is far more prominent and green now, and the opium smoke has increased in strength as well, creating a smoky, leafy, green scent. The grape vine and florals are still present, but they play lesser roles now.

Verdict: Not for me. I really don’t like the dry phase of this scent, which is too strong and green for me.

To me in imp smelled like lemon , sandalwood and soap. It was very opium on me, and had a sourness of grape, but it turned powdery and an anonymous sweet on me towards the end.

Out of the bottle and wet on my skin, it’s very strong and woodsy. As it dries, though, the floral and opium notes come out more, and it smells like Benediction being held in the middle of a forest. Love it!

Very happy with this one. It is very heady wet and dries very nicely. It does have those flower notes, but they’re not too powdery.
