The Lady of Shalott Perfume Oil

$4.50$19.50

Heard a carol, mournful, holy,
Chanted loudly, chanted lowly,
Till her blood was frozen slowly,
And her eyes were darkened wholly,
Turn’d to tower’d Camelot.
For ere she reach’d upon the tide
The first house by the water-side,
Singing in her song she died,
The Lady of Shalott.

The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger.

I was incredibly sceptical about this one in the vial, so I decided to try it out before my other samples, and I must say that I’m incredibly surprised. In the vial, it was a bit too pungent for me, but as it’s dried down on my skin, it’s beginning to remind me of rebellious teenage years when my friends and I would buy hoards of incense from our local “hippie” store. To me, on my skin, it’s got that peppery, warm smell of jasmine incense despite there being no jasmine within the scent itself. On the other hand, it vaguely reminds me of my grandmother’s perfume. It’s quite lovely.

It’s a sweet and fun smell. The water blossoms and the white ginger are the kick of this potion

  3. Gloame

A sad sea, crisp and limey. Frigid, somber waters around a desolate place. This is very lonely. The gardenia is lovely. A very rare aquatic win for me! I would consider a bottle!

Where I’d wear this: The beach, Cornwall, dead of winter

I really wanted to like this. It has some of my favorite notes (muguet, gardenia), it refers one of my favorite poems, It seems like it should work for me. It doesn’t. Something in my skin chemistry turns this one almost.. acidic and sharp on me. Out of the bottle it is soft and I can detect different notes, once on the skin it becomes.. overbearing and “grandma – soap ish.”

This is a favorite, for sure, a beautiful mixture of aquatic and floral scents with a nice little nip of ginger. A totally dreamy scent that really evokes the essence of the poem.

I love it. I will definitely be buying a full-sized bottle of this.

This scent reminds me of fresh watery flowers, like the real bouquet. From the bottle I get magnolia, a little bit of ginger and aquatic notes. It’s beautiful, feminine, crispy sophisticated aroma. I enjoy wearing it, plus it lasts all day on me with nice throw.

I love this scent. When I was a little girl, I had a bottle of lily of the valley and ginger cologne, so it is a combination I have fond memories of. Lady of Shallot is all those memories grown up and a hundred times better.

When I read the description of LoS being somehow both warm and cold, I was delighted, b/c the image this scent first evokes in me is of a cloistered pond covered in waterlilies and glistening with sunlight. As the scent morphs, it’s the same pond, only at night with the soft glitter of distant stars. (Yup. I’m going poetic on this one. But for real.)

This is very floral. Out of the bottle I get lily of the valley, deepened by the gardenia. I get the ginger – this is a fresh ginger, not the dried kind you find in cookies. I’m also getting something decidedly citrusy, b/I’m not sure what. I want to say yuzu b/could be way off.

When I first apply, the lily of the valley gets a little funky smelling, b/this disappears after a few seconds, turning bright and wonderful and then creamy with the slightest whisper of spice. My only complaint is that it doesn’t last very long on me, but it’s so nice I’m willing to forgive.

Overall, a lily of the valley scent, but a delightfully complex one with depth.

At first putting on (wet?): Watery florals and gardenia, i dont smell the musk or ginger

After some time on the skin (dry?): I do get some of the ginger, subtle but there. I still smell water y floral and less gardenia.

I like this, as I thought i would and so bought a full size. I was hoping for more of the musk scent to be there along with the other notes but it is very much as it is described.
The only critique I can make is that for me the water flowers in this scent manage to be more ‘warm’ and reminiscent of a summer lake (maybe he ginger does this) and I think Id like it to be a bit ‘cooler’ though my daughter immediately said she thought the scent had a bright, watery aspect. So it may be a personal preference.

Wet: Right away, a beautiful floral bouquet – gardenias and watery flowers. On my skin, a bright muskiness comes out alongside a sting of something crisp and cool – maybe those aquatic notes? The floral scent fades in and out.

Dry: As it dries, I catch a bit of the biting ginger note. Dry, it reverts back to the lovely florals with just the tiniest hint of spice.
