Baku Perfume Oil

Our Nightmarebane. Named after the Baku, benevolent Japanese spirits that eat nightmares. In Japanese tradition, nightmares are gifts from malevolent spirits; when you wake up from one, you may call, “Baku, please eat my dreams!”, and if you are virtuous and merciful in spirit, the Baku will devour the evil, transforming it into a blessing of good fortune.

The Dream Collection

SomniumO soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas’d eyes, embower’d from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine:
O soothest Sleep! if it so please thee, close,
In midst of this thine hymn, my willing eyes,
Or wait the amen, ere thy poppy throws
Around my bed its lulling charities.
Then save me, or the passéd day will shine
Upon my pillow, breeding many woes;
Save me from curious conscience, that still lords
Its strength for darkness, burrowing like a mole;
Turn the key deftly in the oilèd wards,
And seal the hushèd casket of my soul.

Presented in an amber apothecary vial.

    This is overt lavender and eucalyptus with just a touch of anise and it’s great. In the bottle it smells way too strong, I’ll admit, but on the skin it’s perfect. Lavender and eucalyptus is a combo I’ve liked for ages and I’ve always found it relaxing. The anise comes out more on the dry down. All in all, I can absolutely see how this would be good for meditation or clearing one’s mind and I’ll likely be using it for just that.

    I smell black licorice and a touch of lavender. I typically gravitate towards muskier scents but this is a lovely change of pace. Baku is light, subtle, and herbal.

    I received this one as a frimp with my first purchase. I avoided wearing it because it smells like simple lavender. However, now that it has aged about 2 months I’m giving it a whiff & skin test. There is definitely lavender in it. Some kind of mint or eucalyptus/camphor is also used, not too overpowering to the lavender tho. There really isn’t too much complexity to this one. Smells good, but doesn’t stand out to me. Probably a great one to wear before lounging about.

    Straight. Lavender. *sleepy sighhhhhh*

    Where I’d wear this: To ‘I need to sleep for 12 hours’ cozy time

    Smells herbal. I smell lavender and eucalyptus mostly, but there is a slight, almost licorice smell to it as well. Just smelling it makes me want to relax and take a nap.

    Very medicinal/herbal – I noticed both the lavender nettle-and-nocturne commented on and also something reminiscent of camphor or eucalyptus. I wasn’t a big fan, but someone who likes herbal scents probably would be.

  7. nettle-and-nocturne

    I cannot comment on this scent’s efficacy against nightmares, but it works marvelously for those nights when the mind just won’t settle down, and for tension headaches. In the bottle I smell mostly lavender. I usually find lavender essential oil too strong to use as a relaxant, but this is lovely. If lavender feels like getting conked with a hammer, this feels like soft forehead caresses 🙂
