This is just a sweet bubblegum on my skin, so I’m a little disappointed. My hunt for a perfect sweet pea scented perfume is still ongoing…

Super cozy sandalwood smells kind of incensey to me and the sweet pea almost seems a little fruity. I love it so much and layer it often with other amber perfumes. I take it everywhere I go and it’s been just perfect for fall.

Out of the bottle I am getting the vanilla and sandalwood. On my skin, the sweet pea!! Oh my gosh, I absolutely love this fragrance!! Not generally a floral lover, there are a few rose scents I like. The sweetpea adds interest and softness. Like someone else mentioned, a soft, sweet incense (which I love). I will be FS this one for sure!

The scent is a great balance of the sweetness of the vanilla and the warmness of the amber, the hint of the floral does not over power it. It’s like the end of winter when you have a cozy sweater on, but smell spring in the air.

So far my favorite BPAL scent of all time.
This scent is mysteriously light and comforting while also maintaining an air of lust and hidden mystery. The first word that comes to mind when I smell this in the bottle is YUMMY and when i put it on, i just wanted to eat me up. So I knew it was the fragrance for me.
I have always been attracted to a dark vanilla, incense, Amber and Amber resin scents. I have never been a floral person but always had a hard time putting my finger on the light sweet note in this scent so was very surprised when i found out that mysterious sweet note was in fact, Sweet Pea.
Growing up with the crisp clean air of Alaska my Grandmother always had a beautiful garden of sweet pea’s that woud grow up her back fence. Enticing you with their sweetness that you cannot eat.
So I am guessing for me that is why this note sits on my skin and hits just the right note, in my mind inciting warm and comforting memories of happier times.
I have been told by others that on my skin this fragrance comes off as a sweet and mysterious incense so i am guessing it is all about the skin chemistry with this scent seeing the varying reviews.
I highly recommend this scent to anyone who loves Amber & Vanilla like I do.

I can see why this is a “Best Beloved” scent. It’s extremely light and sweet. I love amber, vanilla, and sandalwood, but in this particular scent, the sweet pea is the most dominant, and it’s too sweet and dainty for me. I prefer florals that are richer, more womanly, and regal: Wicked is a go-to, for instance. If you’re looking for a soft, delicate floral with a lot of sweetness that does not smell like potpourri or nana’s underwear drawer, this is your jam!

This is everything I could have hoped for and more. I hesitated on getting the imp for a while because I’m not familiar with sweet pea but I’m so glad I finally took a chance. Every ingredient blends in perfectly, but I would say on me it’s a little slanted toward the amber and sandalwood. There’s definitely a lightness to it though, which makes me think of happy times, which is somewhat in contrast to its title. All around a fantastic scent.

I got this as a frimp and I actually used it only a few times in the last couple years but I do plan on buying the full size. The sweet pea is very dominant on me and it is so absolutely lovely! I can detect the vanilla too. Most BPAL scents work well with my body chemistry and usually bring out the best and most favorite notes, and this one definitely does this. It’s such a sweet, airy, yet not foody smell. I adore it, and my husband commented that it smells really good too.

I really love how this company tells stories with a nice blend of oils. This scent is really dopey, & sleepy to me. Makes me think of having sedative teas & sweet white icing cakes with friends, followed by long dope nap. Cakey, tea-like, musky, & dreamy.

At first sniff, I thought the sweet pea would be too floral for me, but as it turns out it’s just right. This scent has a light sweetness mellowed by the sandalwood. It smells very similar to O to me, which is another of my favorites. If it had more staying power I would buy a whole bottle in a heartbeat.

I received this as a frimp and my stars I love it! on the first day of wearing it I had a headache and I thought it was the perfume, but still I kept coming back to it, and now I’m certainly ordering a full bottle for daily wear. to me it smells like cotton candy with a dark slant and fruity notes, really wonderful, I can’t stop smelling it x

This is all vanilla and amber right out of the gate. I found the sweet pea to be barely detectable to my nose, and really only in the vial. I have trouble placing this scent; I want to say it has a cotton candy-like sweetness, but it’s not a gourmand, and the sandalwood gives it just a hint of warmth and spice that’s very soothing.
I like sweet amber scents a lot, but not so much on me. While I would love this scent in, say, a candle, it’s a little too in-your-face for me to wear daily. Expertly blended, though!

This was the first full-size I ordered from BPAL and I love it. It’s very warm, and verges on cloying spicy-sweet in a way that makes me want roll around in it. Very warm and comforting. The sweet pea is strongest at the start, vanilla becomes more noticeable after an hour or so, and it tends to mellow out into a sweet sandalwood, like really great incense.
Erin –
This scent is absolutely lovely. It’s warm with just a hint of floral background.
Cheryl –
I wasn’t sure I would like this, but I was surprised. I can’t wear floral scents however the floral of this is soft and background. To me it smells like a dusty incense, hauntingly feminine.
Magarita –
It resolves to sandalwood like a chordal progression played by forest nymphs. That’s all.
Samantha –
Mouse’s Long and Sad Tale has long been one of my favorite General catalogue BPAL fragrances. It is my go-to when I want something comforting and snuggly. I also wear it as a bedtime fragrance some nights, I find it that wonderful and soothing. On my skin, the sweet vanilla and fragrant sweet pea are grounded by the warmth of the sandalwood and amber. Truly a staple in my collection.
Hayley –
Just as a disclaimer, I am new to the world of wearing perfumes.
Mouse’s Tale started off pretty and sweet, and a bit green, almost like herbs or summer grass. Very shortly thereafter, that all gave way to sandalwood, overwhelming sandalwood. While I am a fan of sandalwood, this was a bit too much. I’ll have to see if maybe differing the amount/placement helps or perhaps mixing with another scent.
As a postscript, my friend has both an imp and a full size of Mouse’s Tale, so obviously, the perfume works differently with her body chemistry.
