This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.
Straight from the twisted alleys of Dis, by way of the City of Angels: opium smoke, lemon flower, heliotrope, tuberose, black musk, vanilla, coconut, apricot flower.
“Women are defined from the outside, in terms of how they seem to men, rather than from the inside, as thinking, feeling subjects. They are not fellow people, not even a different or worse variety of person, but simply the opposite of men, and hence, the opposite of human.
Which leads to the question of how you can have sex with something that isn’t human. In many myths, heterosexuality is portrayed as a kind of legalized bestiality, and attractive women are alluring, predatory, half-human monsters: fairy wives, snake-women, others whose beauty is a thin veneer over their dangerous and alien psyches.”
A sebaceous, slick reptilian perfume: green and black vegetal musks, kelp, sea salt, blackened opoponax, violet leaf, Siamese red benzoin, davana, squid ink, and ambergris accord.
White noise, isolation, interrogation: static-white musk grating against ink-black musk, black pepper, and clove.

Heavy, deep, dark leather scent both in the bottle and on the skin. Slightly smoky. Would be very easy to layer with something spicy or a sweet floral. Definitely something I would wear walking alone at night, it’s quite an empowering scent evon though the through isn’t too strong. Walk silently and carry a big stick.

Very heavy and masc. Upon application, the vetiver stands out most, but as it dries, the leather takes over. This smells like something that Arthur on Peaky Blinders would wear- it’s a brute-force scent. Even on a male-identified person, I like something a little sweeter, but if you’re looking for a battle axe in scent form, here it be!

I purchased this imp because it was listen in the best beloved section and I was instantly attracted to the description. It is definitely a masculine scent. I could see myself wearing this to a business meeting where I wanted to be seen a powerful & strong. It is not timid. It is not one that would personally wear day to day. A mature, sexy, wizard who smokes cigarettes.

A very sharp black leather, ashy vetiver, and powdery black musk.

This one is really interesting. When I first put it on, it smelled of musk and leather. The best way to describe it was “sex dungeon.” I was so confused. I liked it, but it was more aggressive than what I’m usually into. After it lingered, the vetiver came out. I can still smell the vetiver on my skin a good 7 or 8 hours later. The staying power is great. I’ve really never smelled anything like it, and my sniffer has been around the block and then some. Iago is so alluring that I bought a whole bottle the day after acquiring an imp ear. I want to let my olfactory freak flag fly. Thanks BPAL!

A lovely deep warm smokey scent. On my skin the leather smell almost reads like horses, a good musky animal scent. Initially the leather comes on very strong as does the vetiver and comes off kind of like beef jerky (the only reason I’m docking a point)after a half hour this mellows into the cruel, dangerous and alluring smell I want Iago to be and has a very light floral property hiding in the vetiver. Absolutely fantastic!

Scents are amazing in that they stir emotions and and even call forth memories, images and passions and for all of those reasons, I love Iago. There is something sinister, sophisticated, intelligent and elitist about Iago and the vetiver has much to do with that. There is nothing flowery or sweet about it. It is a glorious, dark, shadowy scent with a touch of lightning; like a being from a Gustave Moreau painting just stepped into our reality. Highly recommended. I am about to make my fourth purchase of it.

I’ve come to understand that I don’t my skin does not respond well to the vetiver in PBAL products. It reads like stale cigarette smoke on me. I’m not really getting black musk or leather just a heaviness. Not a winner for me but if vetiver works for you the scent may be completely different.
