Chromatic Dragons 2025

One could argue that we ended up on this particular life path because of extended exposure to OG hardcover Monster Manuals at a formative age. The idea that dragons had different qualities and breath-weapons corresponding to color was there for us to dream about long before we knew anything about astrology, Myers-Briggs types, or Cosmo quizzes – the perfect personality test for developing imaginations.

For this year’s Dragon Con fragrances, we’ve compiled our own supplementary monster manual packed with trivia about lesser-known dragons, the ones whose scales shimmer in more obscure and archaic colors than today’s gamers may have run across in their adventures. Now that you know about them, they’re yours to incorporate however you wish!

Consider them an addendum to BPAL’s ever-expanding RPG fragrance series, crafted to enhance gameplay as well as stealthily continue your exploration of fantastical realms while you go about in the real(-ish) world.

  • Bastard-Amber Dragon

    Bastard-Amber Dragon Perfume Oil

Rarely glimpsed except in reflections or the flicker of fading film, the Bastard-Amber Dragon drifts through time like a fever dream of Old Hollywood. Born of illusion and artifice, it casts everything in its path in a honeyed glow. Its scales shimmer like tawny celluloid: aldehyde klieg lights illuminate golden resins, husky with toasted brown sugar.

  • Flame of Burnt Brandy Dragon

    Flame-of-Burnt-Brandy Dragon Hair Gloss

A decadent, daintily debauched, and delightfully improper dragon, Flame-of-Burnt-Brandies love scandal and sparkle and whispers of delicious nonsense. They make their homes in séance parlours, stately manors, and abandoned ballrooms, and their scales flicker like flame on a holiday pudding: lavender, lilac, and lemon peel curling over brandy-soaked honeyed fig and sugared plums.

  • Gamboge Dragon

    Gamboge Dragon Atmosphere Spray

At first glance, the Gamboge dragon seems unremarkable – quiet, muted, seemingly dull – but beneath its subdued surface pulses a fierce golden flame: a sun-bright wit with a venomous streak. Its scales are the color of old gold, translucent frankincense tears, saffron sap, and fossilized amber.

  • Greige Dragon

    Greige Dragon Perfume Oil

Often found napping in office cubicles and unrented studio apartments, this dragon is too apathetic to be evil and too bored to bother with goodness. She doesn’t hoard gold; she collects neutral-toned throw pillows, unread magazines, and Live Laugh Love-branded décor. Their scales are a rainbow of oatmeal, sandalwood, almond milk, tea-stained vanilla, and undyed wool in a muted eggshell finish.
